New Invention Saves Money on 3D Printing

3D Printing is becoming affordable!
Kauffman Foundation Announcement of Competition Winner Hugh Lyman
80 Is the New 50 – Hugh Lyman Shows How! From Time Magazine Tech section writer Harry McCracken, How an 83-Year-Old Inventor Beat the High Cost of 3D Printing, a best-case scenario of communication and collaboration goes on record. 3D Printers are becoming more affordable, but the spools of plastic needed for 3D printing make the cost prohibitive, just as the ink jets on your Canon, Epson, HP, or Lexmark make the cost of a single page high! Expensive spools of plastic make 3D printing out of reach for now in home use. The Kaufman Foundation held a contest to convert plastic pellets into spools that can be used in 3D printing, to sidestep the high cost of pellet conversion. Harry McCracken won! He happens to be 83 years young! It goes to show experience and know-how count for something in this youth-geared, fast-paced digital age! Along with the cool story profiling the contest and Harry McCracken’s entry are comments and responses by Harry himself at the end of the article.
